 Turnpike Expansion Makes Headway in Miami-Dade
 
Turnpike Widening, Noise Reduction Barriers and Express Lanes - Sunset Dr. to Bird Rd.
The Turnpike will be widened from six to ten lanes, including Express Lanes, from north of Sunset Drive/Southwest 72nd Street to north of Bird Road/Southwest 40th Street. Noise reduction barriers will be built along residential areas on the west side of the Turnpike from north of Sunset Drive to south of Miller Road and along Kendall Regional Medical Center.

The Turnpike will be widened from six to ten lanes, including Express Lanes, from south of Killian Parkway/SW 104th Street to north of Sunset Drive/Southwest 72nd Street. Noise reduction barriers will be built along residential areas east and west of the Turnpike from north of Killian Parkway to south of Kendall Drive and from north of Kendall Drive to south of Sunset Drive. New toll gantries will be constructed.

Workers, machinery and construction materials are the hard-to-miss signs that work is progressing on Florida's Turnpike in Miami-Dade County.

Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, new lane striping and traffic delineators ("plastic poles"), additional drainage, signage and lighting improvements, landscaping, and traffic signal improvements on local roads. Construction has begun and will continue through early 2018.

The Turnpike will be widened to twelve and eight lanes, including Express Lanes. Noise reduction barriers will be built along qualifying residential areas along both sides of the Turnpike. The Turnpike/State Road 874 interchange will be realigned. Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, bridge widening, landscaping, drainage, lighting, signage and traffic signal improvements on local roads. Construction began in March 2014 and is scheduled for completion in late 2016.
